Uncovering common mechanisms underlying time perception and working memory through neural modelling

Brief description

This project investigates whether the perception of time and working memory are based on the same neural network in the prefrontal cortex. No such combined model (‘joint encoding network’) has yet been proposed. However, research shows strong parallels between the leading models of both functions: both utilise sustained, rising or falling cortical activity, synaptic dynamics at rest, and shifts in activity between groups of neurons. The project aims to unify these mechanisms within a single neurocomputational model.
