Admission requirements in detail

University entry for those with vocational qualifications

From 1 January 2025, new regulations for professionally qualified individuals will apply in accordance with the Baden-Württemberg Higher Education Act (LHG), until amended admission and enrolment regulations come into force. Professionally qualified individuals are those who:

  1. Have completed a recognised advanced vocational training programme (e.g. master craftsman, specialist). Following a consultation, they will be granted direct access to higher education in accordance with Section 58(2)(5) LHG.
  2. Have completed at least two years of relevant vocational training and have at least three years’ professional experience. They will be granted subject-specific admission eligibility after passing an aptitude test in accordance with Section 58(2)(6) LHG.

Until the new statutory order on university-specific entrance examinations (Section 58(3a)) and trial study periods (Section 58(3b)) comes into force, the aptitude test remains valid under the previous regulations.

Eligible vocational qualifications:

Those with vocational qualifications who do not hold a university entrance qualification, but who have completed at least two years of vocational training and have at least three years’ professional experience, may also be eligible to study a particular degree programme if they pass an aptitude test. Please feel free to contact us in person to discuss this further.
