Reading Time: 3 Min.

Here’s what it’s all about:

  • Alumni reunite 30 years after graduation
  • Former students travel to the Heidelberg campus for a reunion
  • Gathering strengthens friendships and ties to the university

Thirty years ago, Harald Draxel studied Social Work at SRH University’s Heidelberg campus (then known as SRH Hochschule Heidelberg). His time as a student and the interactions with his fellow students remain vivid in his memory to this day and continue to hold a special place in his heart. He decides to get in touch with the individual members of his year group once again and bring them back together. Harald Draxel approached his old university, but the contact details for his former study group were long out of date. Undeterred, he set out on the search himself, travelling all over Germany in his camper van. In the end, he succeeded!

Together with Julia Beck and Azadeh Habibian from Alumni Management, Harald Draxel manages to reunite the former course group. On 23 August, the group meets on the Heidelberg campus.

Following a champagne reception, which is also attended by Prof. Dr Mieke Wasner as the academic representative of SRH University, a short programme begins for the former students. In addition to a tour of the campus, they are introduced to the university’s developments and are quite amazed by its growth in recent years.

Join the alumni network

Would you like to stay in touch with former fellow students or rekindle old university friendships? Through the SRH University alumni network, you can connect with other graduates, receive updates from the university and take part in exclusive events.

The group decides to spend the rest of the weekend together as well. They share photos and stories and look back on their old dissertations. Some of the former students, for example, went on to work in youth welfare after completing their degree in Social Work, whilst others found roles in adult welfare. Still others decided to undertake further training in systemic counselling.

The reunion demonstrates just how important and valuable it is to maintain contact between former students and the university. As well as strengthening old friendships and connections, a special bond with the university is formed.
